Sura Audio Review – OVF

March 30, 2010 By: Kousik Category: Sura

Ilayathalapathy Vijay and Manisharma combination has always churned out mega hit chartbuster albums and Vijay’s latest summer attraction Sura follows the league. Peppy, vibrant, youthful and groovy, it is as good as many other Vijay film albums, but what makes is special is that it has some breezy feel good music after a few mass and heavy ones in the recent past Vijay films.

Now over to review of songs…

ALBUM : SURA

MUSIC : MANISHARMA

LABEL :

Song : Thanjavoor Jillakaari

Singers : Hemachandra, Saindhavi

Lyrics : Na. Muthukumar

“Thanjavur Jillakaari” is a peppy duet with a westernized orchestration and the best of the lot. The main attraction is the voices of Hemachandra(top contestant of SaReGaMaPa challenge) and Saindhavi, and they way they complement each other throughout the song. Very simple and catchy lyrics that suit the tune and mood of the song is another advantage. Especially the “Bommaayee” bit is sure to catch the attention of kids instantly.

Song : Vettri Kodi Yeathu

Singers : Ranjith, Mukesh

Lyrics : Vaali, S.P.Rajkumar

“Vetri Kodi Yethu” comes as a surprise package for someone expecting a heavy beat introduction song of Vijay. With a pleasing composition that brings in the aura of a seashore, orchestration and harmony typical to fishermen songs and inspirational lyrics, this is something very different for a Vijay film album. Ranjith’s powerful voice and the beats that run throughout the song sets an excitement and it will be definitely interesting to watch on screen.

Song : Vanga Kadal Ellai

Singers : Naveen, Maladhi lakshmanan

Lyrics : Kabilan

“Vanga kadal yella” is the typical fast kuthu number of Vijay films but this time it has been done neatly with lot of vibe. Naveen and Malathy get you into the mood of the song and put in as much energy as needed for the song. The thavil, thaarai, thappatai and other drums which were absent in the intro song are effectively used here to bring in the right effect. Rhythmic lyrics and harmony gel with the tune very well.

Song : Siragadikkum Nilavu

Singers : Karthik, Reeta

Lyrics : Snehan

“Sirgadikkum Nilavu” is another peppy romantic number oozing lot of youthfulness, thanks to the voices of Karthik and Reeta. With good lyrics, melodious tune and beautiful interludes, this one is Manisharma’s area of expertise and he excels in it. With a handsome Vijay and beautiful Tamanna sharing the screen space, this song should be a guaranteed visual delight in the film.

Song : Thamizhan veera thamizhan

Singers : Rahul Nambiyar

Lyrics : Kabilan

“Thamizhan Veera Thamizhan” appears to be a theme song with lyrics focusing on the characteristics of the hero. Though not a sheer mass number like Puli Urumudhu or Arjunaru Villu, it has powerful lyrics, Rahul Nambiyar’s great rendition and a heart warming tune and is sure to appeal a lot with visuals on screen.

Song : Naan nadanthal adhiradi

Singers : Naveen, Shoba Chandrasekar, Janani Madhan

Lyrics : Kabilan

“Naan nadandhal adhiradi” is woven with western beats and dominant use of guitars. A fast number that will make you dance, it flows in the same pace throughout. The interludes and harmony are very good. Naveen and Janani do a good job. The lyrics however are just mediocre and could have been done better.

On the whole, the album is a treat for the ears and sensual delight. Not bothering about the origin of the songs, excusing a few silly lyrics and getting out of the hangover of Vettaikaaran, one is sure to enjoy all the songs. Kudos to Manisharma for giving us a scintillating album in a different level for a Vijay film.

The songs are impressive at first listen and grow over you with repeated listening. And with Vijay, we can definitely be sure of a visual treat also, even for the songs which we are not impressed with at first listen. All the best for Sura team to achieve a great success! Till then lets dance, groove and party with the beats of Sura!

Verdict: Hot Summer Sensation
